Bibek Bandyopadhyay, after earning masters in Physics from Visva Bharati, Shantiniketan, obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Delhi in 1980. He has done his post doctoral work in International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste and Ansaldo Impianti in Italy. He has worked in the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Department of Science and Technology, and Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources, Government of India in various capacities. He has, over the years, handled a number of national programmes related to new and renewable sources of energy. His research interest includes materials science and solar energy. He has authored more than 40 research papers and has lectured extensively as a guest faculty in the country and abroad. Currently, he is an Advisor to the Government of India in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the Director of the Solar Energy Centre. The Centre is a dedicated institute of the Ministry for development and promotion of solar energy.
