Dr. S. P. Gon Chaudhuri an Electrical Engineer from Jadavpur University is an expert in the area of Renewable Energy. He is working in this field for last 27 years. He is a specialist in the area of Photovoltaic system Engineering and Design. He has executed a large number of Solar PV projects in different parts of India and abroad. The off grid PV system with mini grid concept developed by him received world wide recognition. He first introduced Solar Lantern and Remote Solar PV based communication in India. The first Solar Housing Complex of India has been designed by him. The project is located at Kolkata. It is due to his initiative about million people in Sundarbans area of West Bengal are getting electricity through Solar PV route. India's first MW level Solar PV power plant has been set up under his leadership. Dr. Gon Chaudhuri occupied different important posts under the Energy Department of the Government.

At present he is the Managing Director of West Bengal Green Energy Development Corporation Limited. The corporation is responsible for promotion of Renewable Energy in the State of West Bengal. He has also served United Nations as an Energy Consultant. He is member of a number of Committees of the State and Central Government which deals with Renewable Energy and climate related matter. Dr. Gon Chaudhuri is a Fellow of Institution of Engineers, India, West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology. He is Vice President of Solar Energy Society of India. He is also a member of National Science Academy. He is a Member of the Energy Advisory Committee in the DST, Govt. of India. Dr. Gon Chaudhuri published more than fifty papers in the Renewable Energy sector with special reference to Solar Photovoltaic applications in the remote rural areas. He has also written four important books on Solar Energy Application, Climate and Energy Conservation.

Dr. Gon Chaudhuri received many National and International Awards which include National Science Academy gold medal, Ashden Award from U.K.(Green Oscar), European Solar Award from Germany, Asia Pacific PVSEC Award, CBIP Award from Govt. of India.

Dr. Gon Chaudhuri is an Adjunct Professor of Bengal Science and Engineering University and Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management. He is also working as an Adviser to Government of Tripura.
